Say the word “Bobcat” and most of us think of the white front-end loader we see daily on farms, construction sites and clearing snow or, perhaps, responding to natural disasters. Even from a distance, the color and silhouette are unmistakable, the brand memorable, even iconic. It wasn’t always that way.
The Bobcat M970 was a groundbreaking invention. With a one-yard bucket and 3,000-pound rated operating capacity, the machine known as “Big Bob” was the largest skid-steer loader ever built. More important, the Big Bob introduced several industry firsts the world continues to benefit from.
In September 2014, we announced Steve Klumker of Mancos, Colorado, as winner of the “What Makes You Unstoppable” contest commemorating the millionth Bobcat® loader milestone. We presented the grand prize — a special-edition Bobcat T650 compact track loader — in a surprise ceremony at Bobcat of Durango, his local dealership. Recently we caught up with Steve to visit about the experience, seated in the cab of his now year-old T650 compact track loader.
Every June when schools let out, summer approaches, and temperatures rise, we get to work on Create & Conserve. With the help of Bobcat® equipment, we’re able to partner with Rick and Julie Kreuter from “Beyond the Hunt” to transform one contest winner’s land into a remarkable place where native plants and animals will thrive for generations into the future.
